Pumpkin Picking

We took the kids to Patterson Farms in Mooresville today. It was a beautiful fall day and a perfect day for pumpkin picking. We had a good time. We took a friend of Cooper's, Elijah, with us. Well, supposedly, they are "best friends" but you could have fooled me. They fought about and over everything today. There were 100's of pumpkins in the field, and lo and behold, they wanted the same one! Ok, so we cut the day a little short because we got tired of dealing with 3 year old attitudes, so it could have gone a little better, but you can't win em all, I guess:) I managed to get a few good pics, and I am also posting some pics from our day at the park earlier in the week.

Ah, the things kids say:)

Cooper loves sweet tea - it's definitely his beverage of choice. I don't often make it at home, but sometimes, when we go out, we will let him have some (watered down, of course:). Sometimes, if it is near nap or bedtime, however, we will tell him that he can't have it because it has too much caffeine in it. Daddy and Cooper spent the morning together this Saturday, and went to eat at Cozumel. Cooper, of course, wanted tea to drink, and Daddy said he took a big drink through his straw, and then said, in his own enthusiastic way, "Ummm, I love caffeine!" Daddy laughed and said "You do?" and Cooper said "Yeah, I love it, and Mommy loves caffeine too!" - LOL, well, he's got that one right:)

Our Trip to the Zoo!

John and I took the kids to the zoo yesterday. It was an amazingly beautiful day, and we had a great time. It has been since my own childhood that I have been, so I think I enjoyed it just as much as they did.

Cooper walked almost the entire time. John carried him on his shoulders for a little ways, but we got him a little Mt. Dew (caffeine), and he was good to go the rest of the way:)

Lena was just happy to be there. She sat up in her stroller and smiled most of the time. Her favorite part of the trip was a another baby that we sat next too on our bus ride to the "Africa" part of the zoo. This little girl, Morgan, was 5 months old, and Lena spent the entire ride smiling and cooing at her. She kept leaning in and trying to pull her towards her, and I am not sure if she wanted to kiss her or what, but it was really cute. I suppose that is her first really close encounter with another baby, and she loved it! I am just glad that I decided to sit right next to the baby and her grandmother. Usually, you would not sit so close to strangers, but for some reason, I just did, and it made for one of the best parts of my day:)

Cooper also made friends. He met an adorable 3 year old little girl, Payton Elizabeth Hill, who promptly made his aquaintance and introduced herself with her whole name, as noted. They were having quite the time together, and I think that John and I could have sat there and watched them play all day. Unfortunately, we met Payton and her Mom close to the end of our trip, so we had to part ways. I will post a pic of Cooper and Payton with some of the zoo pics I plan to post soon.

The river otters were Cooper's favorite attraction (mine too). They were so cute. The kids were standing up against the glass where the otters were swimming, and they would swim back and forth right up against the glass, and when the rest of the kids had left, Cooper was still standing there, and the otters would swim right there where Cooper was. They seemed really playful and friendly, which was fun. I got some pics, although they don't do the experience justice, I will post them too.

We ended our day with a stop in Lexington for some BBQ. We just picked the first place that we came too, and it was pretty good. Eating out can be an adventure with little ones. Lena, with her strong affinity for food, in her haste, will sometimes try and reach out and grab food from our plates. She kept doing this during our meal, and John and I warned her several times with a strong "No", but she kept testing us. Finally, John swatted her hand, and she just stopped and looked at him, and went back to reach for the plate again, and he swatted a little harder this time. Well, this brought a flood of tears and VERY LOUD wailing. This went on for about 7 or 8 minutes straight. It was really embarrassing, and some mother's would have scooped her up and tried to console her, but I didn't. I let her sit in the highchair and cry until it was over. I have a feeling that we havn't even seen temper tantrums with Cooper the way that we are going to see them with her. For those of you who know how highly intense Cooper's emotions can be at times, then you can be afraid (as we are) of what I am forshadowing in Lena's case. After that was over, a couple across from us ordered a banana split, and they got a banana split big enough for 10 people to eat. Cooper leaned over and admired it. He then asked them if they were going to eat the cherry on top. They said that yes, they would probably have a fight over it. They, then, started to talk to him about his trip to the zoo, and he enthusiastically told them about his day and his encounters, all the while, keeping his eyes on that cherry. It was really funny. When we left, he waved and told them goodbye, and as we were walking out the door, he said "Ya'll have fun eating that cherry," as he shook his finger at them. That was worth the price of admission:)
